I want to wish you a Happy New Year and hope to see more traffic on this list for this year ;-) May I suggest you some topic? There are a few new upcoming concerts (see the concerts page on the website): has any of you some more details about them? Is any of you willing to send to the list his personal review of the new CD "So cool"? I do have So Cool, but to be honest have not listened to it very much yet. I always feel that Take 6 albums need a few times on the CD player to really appreciate what they're doing. I am glad that they have reverted to their a capella origins where they belong. I love soul and r&b music, but when you are so musically talented like these men are, it seems a waste to have any music competing with them! Are they coming back to Europe soon? I live in London and saw them in concert in July. Best and a Happy New Year to you too. I live in Taiwan and as of yet I haven't seen a So Cool in Tower Records so I haven't bought it yet. I just wanted to say I completely agree with you about Take 6 and their a capella singing ability. With all that talent you just want to listen to their voices alone and hear them stretch in as many different harmonic ways as possible not including instruments! But then again, I'm a musician myself and I can appreciate Take 6's desire to do projects outside of their a capella stuff. Sometimes its nice to participate in the "other side" of music (i.e. instrumental music)which makes hearing the a capella sound fresh again. I am really a big Take 6 fan and I'm interested in any further communication with you or with others. It's nice to hear other Take 6 fan's opinions. Hi everybody! I`m so happy, I finally got a message from the list. I joined this discussion list a couple of months ago, and as the weeks pased I began to think that maby I was the only member... Anyway, I`m happy to know that you are out there. My name is Astrid Foereland. I`m a 22 year old girl/woman?, and I live in Norway. My biggest interests are my dog, listening to music and playing games. I study at the university in my home town. I will be a fully trained teacher in year from now. My interest for Take 6 started a couple of years ago. I was visiting my best friend who played a Take 6 song for me, and I fell in love with the sound of Take 6 imediately. I have be to two conserts with the group since. I would like to know a little bit about you people on the list. It would be nice to know who I`m writing to... I would be extermely happy if you wrote a few lines about your self to the list or to me directly. To all members who haven`t yet bought "So Cool" - It`s worth waiting for... I would also like to open up a discussion regarding Take 6 in other creative ventures. I personally would like to see Take 6 do a CD with Rob McConnell and the Boss Brass (Canadian Big Band Jazz group), a CD of all jazz standards (all arranged by the group) and a "classical" sounding CD of perhaps original compositions or, say, "popular" classics (i.e. The Four Seasons, Eine Kleine Nacht Musik) with words. So I was ecstatic when "So Cool" came out. And fans are responding - it was our #3 seller in the holiday season (see http://www.a-cappella.com/top10.html). FYI, the top seller was from Sweden's The Real Group, their last "One For All." I think most Take 6 fans would really enjoy it. I had a big Take 6 fan come into our store, and she was happy to buy "So Cool." When I played "One For All" for her, she said she had to buy it within about 15 seconds! Dear Astrid and other members, My name is Steve Hanlon, 27 years old. I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. I am a English Teacher/jazz guitarist/composer. I am currently teaching English in Taiwan to kindergarteners and junior high school children. My wife is a flutist and an Eng. teacher, too. We both write English songs for children learning English as a second language. I was fortunately introduced to Take 6 when they released their first album. So I've been lucky to have their music a part of my life for the last ten years. I listened purly for musical reasons. I could care less if they sang Betty Crocker recipes or the Gospels since its their arrangements, tight harmonies, intonation and combined voice timbre that attract me most. But its a bonus that their message is optimistic and moral. I would love to know if anyone out there has been fortunate enough to see them in the studio. I would love to see and hear their recording process. Would anybody know how to make this happen? Dear members It always gives me a big surprise to see how much computers and internet can do. Now I am talking with people I have never met before, and sharing God's love thru the group called Take 6. Hello, everybody, I am Minako "mooki" Obata, a 27-year-old female recording artist of JVC, Japan. The music I write and sing has been fusion with a strong flavor of jazz and gospel chorale voicings. You may be able to find my CDs if you are in Europe, Asia, and some areas in the States. Putting my business aside, I am a huge Take6 freak ever since their 1st album, and of course a huge fan of Mervyn Warren (the former member of Take6). It simply was like seeing Jesus raising from his tumb, they simply has guided me to accepting Jesus Christ as my Savior. Their musical ability and harmonical structure, it is amazig, and I bet there's no other singers/groups which can build up that wonderful soothing harmony, (and I would say that there's no other BASS singer like Alvin Chea who sing that low, who can sing bass part with that much emotion, with that Perfect pitch!!), but one thing that we should never forget is their spirit of Christianity. I believe their faith is what makes them sound so special and different from other singers. So, to God is the Glory. I had a chance of seeing them at Tokyo Blue Note in Nov last year. Words can never explain what it was like. It was just marvelous!! Hey Astrid in Norway, I am very sure that we all felt the same as you felt "Maybe I am the only member of the list??!!", but THANKS TO YOU, see how many mails are flying all over the world! May God's blessing shower upon you all. In answer to Astrid's question, my name is Irene Ilias, I'm an American living in London (29 years old) and have been a fan of Take 6's since their first album when my room-mate in college gave me her CD (she didn't like it - go figure). I have sung a lot of a capella myself, Madrigals in High School and then a women's a capella group in college for 4 years. I'm getting back into it now through a workshop that takes place in London on Saturdays - makes me very happy! Joe, I agree that they don't get enough airplay in London. Steve, I have no idea if they're going to Taiwan any time soon, but I think they're going to Japan - check the website. I agree that they have a positive message, and although I am not religious per se, I do find myself caught up in the moment when they perform! Nice to talk to you all. Irene P.S. Dear Irene, My name is Yinka Oyelese. I am a BIG fan of take6 in London(perhaps their biggest fan, though David Das must take credit for being their all time biggest international fan!). Cedric Dent has become a friend of mine. I must say they are the most wonderful a cappella group on the planet. With this, they combine a deep faith that pervades every song they sing. The message is strong, but NEVER overbearing! And the guys are great fun! I am so glad the guys put out such a good album recently. You must have "So Cool". If you dont, I'd be happy to loan you a copy. I am an ObGyn in London, though I am writing this from Georgetown in DC, where I may be working soon. I am 36 years old. I have been trying to put together an a cappella group in London for ages. Interested? I used to direct a cappella groups. Is anyone else interested? Drop me a line. Finally, come over to the Jazz Cafe, January 19 to see the Magnets. Please write and tell me a bit about yourself and if you are interested in singing or know anyone else interested. I reckon we can put together an excellent group. TO all the ravenous Take 6 fans the world over, Hello from Crofton, Maryland, USA! Did anyone who is getting this letter go to the Kennedy Center FREE concert the Half Dozen did in December of last year ('98)? If you didn't, you missed out BIG time. Not only was it a big blessing from the Lord Jesus to hear such great music, but the guys did an awesome job of letting it be known that as they said "It's O.K. to say 'Jesus Saves.'" That was fantastic! Many people there were coming simply because it was a free show. They didn't even know they were a gospel group. Who knows what seeds were planted in the hearts of those people. It was unbelieveable to see the "Brothers" stand up for the Lord, as they always do! A little about myself now is in order. I'm a graduate student at University of Maryland, getting my master's. I have been a believer and follower of Jesus Christ since '87 and am going higher daily. I desire to some day go to the Former Soviet Union (Kazakhstan, if you know it) as a missionary as the Lord wills, but I am trying to be patient. Well, I hope and pray that many people will E-mail me back about themselves. I enjoy hearing from far flung lands and from next door neighbors.
