Figlio d'arte (il papa' ha suonato la tromba per molti anni con Frank Sinatra, la mamma e' stata una cantante jazz), dopo un passato trascorso in giro per l'Europa cercando "fortuna", nel 1984 Chris ha conosciuto il Signore decidendo, in seguito, di frequentare la Scuola Biblica per prepararsi ad un ministero pastorale e di conduzione della lode che poi ha esercitato presso la "Christian City Church" di Brookvale (Australia). Trasferitosi negli Stati Uniti nel 1993, ha continuato la sua collaborazione con l'etichetta evangelica "Maranatha! Music", che era cominciata nel 1992 con il disco "Chris Falson", in qualita' di produttore, autore e cantante. Da allora ha realizzato "Live Worship with Chris Falson & The Amazing Stories", CD e video, e nel 1997 "A Tree By The Water" che segna anche l'inizio di una nuova casa discografica - "The Orchard" - da lui stesso fondata. La sua visione, oltre a quella di fare concerti che definisce in modo originale "worship evangelism" (evangelizzazione attraverso la lode), e' anche quella d'incoraggiare altri musicisti e conduttori che desiderano raggiungere con il Vangelo la nostra generazione, e tutti coloro che ricercano una vita di adorazione. In his two-column series, "Myths, Fishbowls & Reality" and "Do the Math," Mattingly asks, "Do CCM artists actually sing to unbelievers?" and further comments, "As a rule, CCM is sold in Christian stores to Christian consumers, who hear it played on Christian radio or at Christian concerts. These professionals are paid to preach to the choir." Mattingly quotes Charlie Peacock, songwriter, performer, producer and record-company executive, who has recently completed "At the Crossroads," a book about the identity crisis within the CCM industry. Peacock contends, "People who run CCM companies must learn to reach the ears of unbelievers as well as believers." He further notes, "An audience of 100 Satan punks and 10 Christians does not constitute a CCM consumer base. An audience of 95 Christians and five Satan punks does. If you're thinking something doesn't add up, you're right. There are many wonderful christian artists out there, but the main difference with the secular names you quoted like Suzanne Vega or Elton John is that distribution for christians is limited mainly to a christian audience. Some artists (esp. praise & worship) are indeed aiming at the christian community, but I have come across many whose hearts are to play to a wide audience and whose music and lyrics would support that. But who are trapped in the christian ghetto for lack of distribution into the general marketplace. Greetings to Joyce!
