Here's a brief update: We fixed a concert with WhiteCross (USA) and Stream (CH) in the Zurich area on Friday, March 20, at 20h00 in Duernten at the "Faegt-ory" Club. After some years we could book the US-Whitematel Band "WhiteCross" again. Their new album "Flytrap" is available at KIR Music. In May, Andrae Crouch (USA) will be back in Switzerland after a 14-years break! The "King of Gospel" wrote songs like "Take me back", "Soon and very soon" and "Jesus is the answer". His latest albums "Mercy" and "Pray" are masterpieces. Both titles are available at KIR Music or Musikvertrieb, Zurich. The 2 concerts will be on May 16 and 17 and are in the process to be finalized. Andrae will perform together with GospelCompany (CH/D), one of the best Swiss/German Gospelchoirs. As soon as the concert-details will be fixed, they will appear on our Homepage.... The music we perform in church by and for our congregations, with participants which are more or less musically trained 2. The amateur performance music that we take outside of congregations for believers and non-believers 3. Professionally performed, produced and recorded christian music I am very involved in the first type, and I am often flabbergasted by the low level of musical training in Italy (I'm from the US and there, as you may know, the situation is quite different). This situation makes it very difficult to involve adults in any kind of musical activity (I see that the non-participants have no problem criticizing those who do try their best, but that's another problem!)Oh well, I don't give up and I do my best to inspire a love of music (proposing interesting, modern and fun songs to sing, I'm trying to include new songs in Sunday service that involve the whole congregation, I'm working hard with the little ones) IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS ... I CAN USE THEM!!! By purely musical standards the results are at best mediocre (sometimes it's downright awful!!) MY QUESTION IS: Do you think music's spiritual quality is directly proportional to it's musical quality? (Especially for the listener. I think the singers are edified by their hard work and bytheir commitment) In other words: if we sang pitifully, was God's name glorified anyway?? In the second and especially in the third type of christian music, I think music becomes mission (or a vehicle for it): we use it to carry His name on high. Within the capacity of the group or individual... the music must first of all be understood and felt by the musicians and secondly sung and/or played WELL. After all, the first impact attracts listeners, then if they keep listening, they might become involved in the message. Finally music has the power to move and energize people if it is really quality music. I don't want to come off as purist, and I don't think I could do much better myself, but I have heard lots of low quality (pathetic) recordings/productions of christian music (contemporary and traditional) (Just listen to "Radio Maria" in Italy for about five seconds and you'll know what I mean!) Activities like Musictus insure the diffusion of excellent music (thank the Lord and the good hard-working people who give their time!). THE NEXT QUESTION: Am I dead wrong? Is it best to generate as many messages as possibile at whatever level of virtuosity with the goal of reaching as many people as possible? (if for no other reason in this way more people can PARTICIPATE in singing the Lord's praises)??? Mi piacerebbe sentire le vostri opinioni su questo argomento: QUALITA' NELLA MUSICA CRISTIANA. Innanzitutto distinguiamo subito tra 1. la musica che produciamo tra noi in chiesa con partecipanti piu' o meno preparati musicalmente 2. la musica amatoriale da performance che portiamo fuori la chiesa per incontrare non-credenti e credenti insieme e 3. la musica professionale da registrazione Io sono molto coinvolta nel primo tipo, e spesso sono sconvolta dalla scarsa preparazione musicale in genere in Italia (sono statunitense, e la, come saprete, il discorso e' un po' diverso). Rende difficile coinvolgere soprattutto adulti in attivita' musicali di qualunque tipo (vedo pero' che i non-partecipanti non disdegnano una critica aspra nei confronti di chi ci tenta, ma questo e' un'altro problema!). Va' be' non demordo e cerco di infondere comunque un'amore per la musica (portando pezzi interessanti moderni, divertenti, non troppo difficili, ora voglio provare di inserire canzoni nuove nella liturgia che coinvolgono tutta la comunita', concentro le mie forze anche con i bambini)... SE QUALCH'UNO HA UN QUALUNQUE SUGGERIMENTO... BEN VENGA!!! In ogni caso il risultato, dal punto di vista puramente musicale, e' nella migliore delle ipotesi mediocre (capita che faccia un po' schifo...) LA MIA DOMANDA E' secondo voi, la qualita' spirituale della musica viaggia in funzione della qualita' musicale? (soprattutto per chi ascolta, chi canta e' edificato dal lavoro e dalla serieta' del suo impegno per il Signore) Insomma: se abbiamo fatto pena, e' stato comunque glorificato il nome del Signore??? Nel secondo caso e soprattutto nel terzo caso, secondo me la musica diventa missione: portare la Sua bandiera in alto. Nel limite delle possibilita' del gruppo o dell'individuo, la musica deve essere prima di tutto capita e sentita da chi canta e cantanta/suonata BENE. Dopo tutto, il primo impatto attira gli ascoltatori, poi se ascoltano, potrebbero essere coinvolti anche nel messaggio. Infine la musica ha il potere di commuovere, di energizzare di muovere la gente se e' veramente bella. Io non voglio fare la purista e non credo di fare molto meglio, ma ho sentito tante registrazioni di musica cristiana (contemporanea e no) di bassissima qualita' musicale - performance e registrazione! (Basta ascoltare Radio Maria per 5 secondi e mi capite al volo). Iniziative come Musictus (ringraziamo il Signore e la brava gente che si presta) assicurano una diffusione di musica che raggiunge lo scopo (e che e' di qualita'). VI CHIEDO: Forse mi sbaglio? Non e' meglio generare piu' messaggi possibili di qualunque livello di virtuosita' pur di raggiungere piu' persone possibili (se non altro, proprio perche' in questo modo piu' persone possono PARTECIPARE a cantare le lodi del Signore)??? O dobbiamo pretendere musica di qualita' (e lavorare anche all'interno delle nostre chiese per costruirlo per il futuro?)
