It would be a long over do concert . So let me encourage you to try and see them then for they are with out a doubt the most incredable live band I have ever seen . And I think everyone on this list could agree with me on this . Any way may God Bless . In fact, from reading the posts on this list I wonder if I am the only Iona fan in Australia. If there are any other Aussies lurking out there please let me know. I have only been listening to Iona for about 7 months now. I bought their first album while on holiday at Christmas time and was immediately impressed by the quality and depth of their music. I will write more at a later date, but for the record I am a happily married father of 2 boys, one of whom is also married. I am a secondary school teacher and have passed the 50 mark in years. There certainly are Iona fans here in Australia - happy to say I've been listening to them for over nine years. However I doubt if I'll ever get to see them in concert - about the best I can do I say I met Mike Haughton back in 1995 (actually I've still got some photos of him in concert with Kenny Marks back in '88 or '89) I can also claim "one degree of separation" through three friends... As described in the Pressrelease herebelow, it was a tremendous rainy night last week. I was totally unprepared to watch a concert under the rain, so I (and most of the audience) unfortunately lost most part of the gig. What to say? Iona is great! In my opinion, Joanne is the absolute leader of the band. Her voice and her front-power is absolutely fantastic. The entire band gave a superb interpretation of old and (many) new songs. I must also admit I miss Haughton winds, but that's only my opinion, maybe. Any other list member was there? I really look forward to receive my videotape! And yes, it will be on sale at our online shop very soon... Walter Aresca .... Pressrelease Open Air Huenigen - Ireland excited the Emmental! About 2000 visitors were present at the 12th Open Air Huenigen in Konolfingen, Switzerland. Of the 1'600 tickets sold, 130 were family tickets. With this ticket a family as a whole could come, indepenent of the number of family members living together under the same roof. It was a great evening with the bands SILENCE, THE ELECTRICS and IONA. Even the Irish weather got involved: after a very hot and sunny day and first part of the evening, a thunderstorm and heavy showers interfered with THE ELECTRICS and IONAs gigs. So the Irish /Celtic concept turned into a very "complete" experience. For the first time, this years festival was videotaped. The beautiful decoration (15 banners with ornaments and symbols taken from the "Book of Kells") welcomed the visitors in the park. Inspired by this atmosphere, the first band SILENCE convinced the audience with its strong vocals and good musicianship interpreting its ballads. With the first rain drops THE ELECTRICS from Glasgow jumped on stage and turned the sitting audience into a stormy dance group. With their fast and spontaneous music they conquered the Emmental within minutes. Only a small part of the people present knew them form their few concerts they gave in Switzerland. So they were the "discovery" of that night. Many were looking forward to IONAs set. It was IONAs first public concert after a break of 18 months, apart from the London concert May 29th (which was performed together with an orchestra). At the same time it was the premiere for Frank van Essen as their new drummer. Despite the weather conditions (the rain continued and got even stronger at times) each musician developed such enthusiasm and joy that everybody present forgot about being wet. In addtion to David Bainbridges wonderful sound creations, Joanne Hoggs cristal clear voice, the electrifying playing of Troy Donockleys Uillean pipes and the pulsing rhythm sections by Phil Barker and Frank van Essens, Paul Kells amazing light design gave an extra dimension to this amazing concert. The audience was introduced to some new material that will be included in IONAs next studio album, due to be released next spring. After 2 hours and 15 minutes, at 0h30, the audience didn't want to let the band finish..... Together with the release of the new album, the band plans an european tour for next year. The whole concert was videotaped by 3 cameras. PROFILE prepares a release of a 60 minute highlight LIVE video, including songs of each band by october. ______________ To unsubscribe send an e-mail command to musictus@musictus.com In the body of the message type ONLY the following: unsubscribe iona or visit http://www.gospel.it/iona/mailingl.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Aug 1999 09:53:45 +0100 From: =?iso-8859-1?Q?St=E9phane?= Bonvallet Subject: Re: [iona] Feedback OPEN AIR HUENIGEN . _ _ _ |(_)| )(_| mailto:musictus@musictus.com Discussion List http://www.gospel.it/iona/ _______________ Dear fellows, I must say here that I disagree. Right Joanne is great as she is on her solo album. But my opinion is that Iona is almost the musical touch of Dave Bainbridge. Every player of the band plays a great part in the musical chemistry we are lucky to get delivered but David is definitely the main and final touch of everything I guess.
