Though the radio never plays their music. In fact, I'm not sure where I heard of them...odd. I just, somehow knew of them, like, knew the name, so I looked for their music and found some, and was very happy. :-) I wonder how I ever did hear of them...maybe I'm crazy *l* Yes, I think they need to come to the west coast...yes, that would be very good. I too, have never actually met another Iona fan...I think we need more. Oh well, then we will. I'm assimilating a friend at this time...hehe...she's starting to like them... well, talk to you later. blessings Deborah - --- Ben wrote: > Hey everybody, > > This is kind of funny. My name is St=E9phane. I live in Paris in France and was very happy to be in London for= the Woven Chord show last 05/29. First let me tell you we've had a huge storm not long before the concert. It was almost a deluge. It was very exciting. The show was great but I would say the sound could have been better. This is not due to the sound engineers but to the complex setting on stage. Let's see. About 35-40 people on stage (I counted them but don't remember the exact number), mixing classical orchestra instruments and electronics instruments. A big deal for a live performance, I tell you. So far I really enjoyed being able to be in the public. I saw Iona for the first time a long long time ago in France (in Valence to= be precise) something like 9 years ago. I fell in love with their music and arrangements. I liked their music so much I decided to try helping them in France (I mean in regards with my influence in that time, lol). Thus I wrote a chronicle about "Journey into the morn" in a musical french= magazine. I've listen to this record hundreds of time and being a musician myself I admit I listen to the music with a special interest, playing sometimes a song in loop about 20-30 times to analyse everything that happens inside. I appreciate the evolution that happened after the 1st album regarding the arrangements. The first album was sounding too much like some kinda= Tangerine Dream tracks. But it's fine since I like Tangerine Dream :o) Guess what? Iona helped me falling in love with the Uillean Pipe. That's why I am gonna buy my own Uillean Pipe in september in Ireland and will learn playing in from october. So have a look into Iona next albums in the early next century as I might play the Uillean Pipe on it, (sounds like a fantasy, lol). Just kidding. But who knows? As we say "Les voies de Dieu sont imp=E9n=E9trables" (sorry but I am too tired tonight to look for the translation but it means something like "plans of God are unpredictable"). I am glad to see I am not the only french speaking person on the list! Salut Pascale, by the way guess what I am likely going to Montreal one day....maybe this year. Does anybody here has listen to the solo record of Joanne? On the last track I get many digital clicks and weird sounds. I wonder if it's on my on my CD or if somebody else has the same problem. One thing I really appreciate in Iona songs is authenticity. If you like= good music performed and produced by strong and committed christians I invite you to visit the website of friends of mine. Their name is Street Called Straight. Their website is very cool. You even can read their testimonies for those who like to hear how people have met Jesus in their life. Their album "Wild in the wilderness" is musically, spiritually wonderful too. It's very different of Iona but they deserved to be known for their ministry as well. I am not gonna make advertising here, please don't get me wrong. I am sharing with you some of the musical treasures I've found by myself. They have recently produced the last album of Christopher Cross, Steve Camp whom they have started a ministry in LA called "The Bridge" (for christian singles I guess). Scott= also worked on Barbara Streisand last 2 albums, Coolio last project, Chicago, and other artists like Michael Jackson etc... just to tell you he is GREAT! I am also very interested in discovering new christian artists. So please= feel free to share with me some of your treasures either personnally or on the list if other members are interested as well. I wish you the very best and may God bless you this week. As far as I am concerned I've been blessed having an accident to my foot so I stay home all week long instead of going to work :-) A plus tard, St=E9phane. ______________ To unsubscribe send an e-mail command to musictus@musictus.com In the body of the message type ONLY the following: unsubscribe iona or visit http://www.gospel.it/iona/mailingl.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 09:28:33 +0100 From: Joost Warners Subject: [iona] Iona in Zwolle?? . _ _ _ |(_)| )(_| mailto:musictus@musictus.com Discussion List http://www.gospel.it/iona/ _______________ Hi all, Did anyone notice that Iona is announced as the headliner at the Day of Dreams festival in Zwolle, on september 25th this year!? I was so hooked, I've bought all the others; "Beyond These Shores," "Journey Into The Morn" and "Heaven's Bright Sun," as well as Joanne's solo album (without the clicks, I might add). I did eventually go to John Kreuz's Big Music site and buy "Iona," and I'm glad I did. Walter, I would have bought it from you, but John's a bit more local! I have yet to see them live. In rehearsal I watched Dave swap around some plugs at the back of the equipment ( miles and miles of 'spaghetti' !) and asked how he knew what to put where. "I don't really know!" he replied, though I suspect that was false modesty :-D Also there were technical problems with Noel's click track, which made it impossible to know where the orchestra was to begin in one piece... but I hope that did not spoil people's enjoyment of the concert. Finally, the band really are such lovely people; there was no sense of "them and us" and they were all really approachable - especially Phil, who I chatted with while we waited for our gourmet dinner! Band and orchestra prayed together before each rehearsal and the concert for the glory of God to be evident in all we did. I hpoe Iona will consider using an orchestra again! Sitting here today, day off from work, I have been enjoying finding out how people have become fans of Iona and thought I would share. In 1994 about two months before I separated and divorced from my wife I saw the "Treasure" video. I was immediately fascinated. I did not purchase the cd immediately, I never saw the credit for who the band was. After a few months, I was browsing in my local christian bookstore and came across a demo of a band that I had never heard of and listened to it. The song I heard was "Treasure." I bought the tape, fell completely in love with the music and proceeded to order all that were available. No small task in a small Texas city. After obtaining all the albums I listened to nothing else for about a year and a half. Being of Irish heritage I find a connection to the music. Being a christian I am uplifted by the spirit in the words and music, and at that difficult time in my life the Lord used them to carry me through a rebuilding process. I thank God for their talent and commitment. I have not had the opportunity to see them live living where I do, but one day I will even if I have to fly to Europe to do so. I also wanted to thank Caron for sharing with us a little of the experience of being in rehearsal and onstage with them.
