There was one addition in the middle of the second set - an instrumental played by Troy and Dave - I didn't catch the title. At the end, Iona returned for encores. There was some confusion. They wanted to reprise the Woven Chord as it hadn't gone well first time around, due to a failure of Noel's earpiece. However, Frank complained that his mixer had suddenly failed (to which Troy responded - why are you baking cakes on stage anyway !). After some discussion, there were two further songs: * Chi Ro * Beyond These Shores (the latter dedicated by Dave to the memory of his sister, Mo, and accompanied by Frank playing violin - very nice). Finally, Iona returned with special permission to break the 10.30 house rule and, after an initial false start, played the Woven Chord aagain with the orchestra. For me, the highlights of the concert were: * Encircling * Matthew the Man * Castle Rigg (new piece followed by Reels). I'm really looking forward to the release of the live recording of this concert. I hope there's a video as well - I spotted at least three video cameras at strategic locations around the hall. It was called Angel of God, a piece that was played at the tail end of the last tour back in 1997. The rest of the gig was excellent with some pieces really working well in their rearranged or augmented form. The two new songs Woven Chord and Castle Rigg sounded great (Castle Rigg sounds like an instant Iona classic). Of the other songs some were sans orchestra or only had light orchestration so sounded very similar but Encircling benefitted from the orchestra as did Matthew The Man, Kells and Revelation. I really enjoyed the new arrangement of Dancing On The Wall, which gave it a new lease of life (although it was always a great song, the arrangement was also a very basic one before this version). Overall the orchestra helped add power in a few places (I was in the front row, so heard both the PA and the orchestra direct) and was never used as a cheesy gimmik. Overall a great evening, and although a little early for Iona (and myself as I was at Joanne's first Iona gig) a great way to celebrate 10 years of Iona!! My review of it should be at the Phantom Tollbooth very soon. My girlfriend was staying for the weekend and I took her along to her first Iona show. She really enjoyed it, but said it left her wanting to see the band do a set all of their own ... no complaints from me if that's what she wants ;) She found out when she got home that her parents had also been there and none of us had realised that the others were in attendance! "Matthew - The Man" was probably the standout for me. I was in the balcony seats. I'd asked for more expensive tickets but was told by the woman at the box office that the sound in the balcony was better, so went with that. It was very good and we had a great view looking down on the stage. So does anyone know how long they expect the preparation of the live album to take? I would love to have seen it. And I look forward to the album. I remember years ago (mid '70s) when Emerson, Lake, and Palmer came to Indiana (my state), and they advertized as having an orchestra with them, and I looked forward to it, but for some reason, there was no orchestra, just the trio, but I enjoyed it anyway. I really enjoy the symphonic Yes version of "Heart of the Sunrise," but of course, I can't help to like it with the performances of Steve Howe and Bill Bruford (and Tim Harries on bass).
