The gig was awesome, the full orchestra worked really well and it was nice to see the place sold out (I didn't know there were so many Iona fans out there !). It is the first time I have seen Iona and I was totally blown away, can't wait for the UK tour in October. Nick got a really great reception but his Stick was way down in the mix and the bass was playing very similar notes so it was harder to pick out, Nick did look happy though, I am sure he enjoyed the vent, it was very special and I for one would have loved to have been involved. Ann, I think I saw you with Nick's sister but I wasn't sure so I didn't come over - wish I'd chanced it now !!! It was a splendid night & weekend - he was shattered. Apart from a few hiccups it was a splendid gig, everybody loved it, the green room was buzzing afterwards. Spoke to Nick, his nephew was there too - Nick really= had enjoyed himself, enormous grin all night and still grinning when he went home. Maddy Prior was there too. Tim Harries seemed to be havinga go= od time and all. Loads of bodies to talk to and meet - didn't get to speak t= o half as many as I would have liked! While we were waiting for a taxi, I flicked through the orchestral scores= in the artists entrance. I asked Troy what would happen to them - he said= Alliance were holding on to them, Dave & Troy want to do a repeat! Nigel was stuck in a back room recording it all - he seemed happy & there= were two video cameras taping the performance. = The main bummer was its the only time I've had to sit for an Iona performance and there was some really fast playing at the end, Troy givin= g Salamanca hot-licks. Probably nearly two and a half hours of Iona - you always get your money's worth. It was Troy's birthday on Sunday - what a weekend for it. Mick Just thought, there was lots of stuff off 'the Book of Kells' including a= rewrite of 'Mathew the Man' =3D brilliant stuff. = ______________ To unsubscribe send an e-mail command to musictus@musictus.com In the body of the message type ONLY the following: unsubscribe iona or visit http://www.gospel.it/iona/mailingl.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 May 1999 23:57:52 +0200 From: Hans Nijntjes Subject: Re: [iona] Set list please! . _ _ _ |(_)| )(_| mailto:musictus@musictus.com Discussion List http://www.gospel.it/iona/ _______________ > >OK, all of us who couldn't make the gig >are salivating for details! Please give us >a report ... anyone who went! Well it was a very good and nice concert. The All Souls Orchestra (sorry, but the abbraviation ASO has a different meaning in Dutch ;-)) conducted by Noel Tredinnick was in good harmony with the band. This orchestra has cooperated with "Songs of Praise" (BBC), Graham Kendrick and Cliff Richard. When I saw the whole equipment, I was wondering why there was another bass-setup near that from Phil. The concert was divided into two sets with an interval between them. The set list (before the interval): (1) Ouverture (performed by the ASO and Troy) (2) Bi-se-I-mo-shuil (part 1) (3) Woven chord (new) (4) Irish day (5) White sands (6) Murlough Bay (7) Encircling (8) When I survey (after the interval): (9) Lindisfarne (10) Dancing on the wall (11) Matthew - The Man (12) Everything changes (even Iona !) (13) Revelation (14) Castle Rigg (new) (15) Kells (Imho) Iona setted the whole evening with Woven chord (3). I was surprised by the very good balance between Iona and the orchestra, the mixing was well-done ("Chapeau" !) Frank (van Essen) did his work excellent as drummer, it sounded perfect. I think he is less (physical) expressive then Terl who could be a bit bombastic in a nice manner, but I realize that it's a risk to compare two drummers. Dancing on the wall (10) sounded completely different to me, Iona made a new arrangement of it, very nice, surprizing and original. With Matthew (11) came another surprise: Joanne invited Nick Beggs. And Nick appeared on stage in Scottish kilt, sporran, short-cutted hair and Chapman-stick. With Castle Rigg (14) where Troy also woved-in "The Ivy Leaf" from "Reels" Troy and Dave were playing at their best concerning playing full-speed. (wow!) At the end it was a bit confusing me. They stopped before "Kells" and came back to play it (but this song was mentioned in the programme ?!?!?). After that they came back again to play another "reel" and "Chi-Rho". I was in London for a weekend with my daughter and we both were happy to be here. We both enjoyed the concert and also enjoyed London and my daughter her first flight :-)) Very funny: we founded a good B&B house in Westcombe Park (near Greenwich). The first morning when we had breakfast, there was also an older retired couple, and that morning we had a good conversation about nice contemporary praise-music in churches. (They also were familiar with Hillsong praise music from Australia). And they wished us a good concert for the coming evening. The next morning I told them that the concert we visited was with Iona (I almost forgot to tell it the first morning). And the old lady was acquainted with Iona. She said they make very nice music. :-))) So I think Iona is really making music for all generations......... OK This was it for now, I hope we soon will hear more about "our" band. God bless you.
