Hi, guys I have only two, Celtic Praise and Celtic Worship. These are the two that I can find on the Internet at CDNow.com and Spree.com Here in South Africa, getting Celtic music is hard enough if you want secular stuff, which I mostly do, but getting the Christian stuff is downright impossible. That is why I have to rely on the Internet for all this. I love this band, but I cannot get hold of their other works. Is it possible that you guys could help me with contact details, so I can get to their distributor direct? I would really appreciate this. I think many Evangelicals are struggling with the "whys" of their beliefs: Why do we do this and not that. Many are plunging into various ancient traditions from a positions of ignorance, hoping to find the answers that these traditions espouse. It is interesting that so many are struggling, for the Reformation itself was an unabashed return to the Biblical world-and-life-view, which was influenced by the best of the first few hundred years of Christianity. As such, reformation-based believers' culture and theology DO go back exactly that far, largely as a continuum, with only an apostrophe, if you will, imposed by the variance of the mainstream Roman church ( in bringing in secular influences and syncretizing the faith) which caused the eventual return to the source. One area where the Reformed position and the Celtic position differ is the degree to which the syncretism of Greek dualism has been banished. The Celtic drive for simplicity seems to derive from sacred/secular, mind/body dualism, an outlook which was eschewed by the reformers but re-embraced in another form by the revivalists. At the same time, the Celts shared with the reformers a closeness to nature as the work of God's hands. Interestingly, the reformers themselves felt little of the dichotomy which has torn some modern Christians (many from the revivalists' camp) between obedience to God and responsible use of the earth and its resources. Perhaps a better study of their roots would allow some Evangelicals to get a better grasp of where they've come from and why they believe what they do. I've often been concerned as I watched "feel-good" churches missing the importance of a thorough Christian education. >The cynic in me is very suspicious that a lot of what passes as >"Celtic" these days are merely modern problems and issues in >Celtic drag. But I am willing to be convinced that the cynic in >me is wrong... It's interesting that you bring this up, because the music of Iona is an interesting picture of this very idea: They sing beautiful melodies and wrap them in some of the most complex music forms you'll find in pop. I love that, by the way. The integration of simplicity and complexity in the Celtic culture is unique and unpredictable. Bob PS. The target audience: MTV and the pop charts, as well as 1 billion faithful around the globe. Producers will release the first 1 million copies of ``Abba Pater'' around the world on Tuesday, timing it for the Easter holidays and the upcoming 2,000th anniversary of Christianity. The pope got his copy, the first one produced, at his general audience Wednesday in St. Peter's Square. Culled from Vatican Radio recordings over John Paul's 20-year papacy, ``Abba Pater'' features the pope reciting psalms, Gospels and other inspirational passages _ occasionally singing. Mixed in the recording studio is a world beat music background as eclectic as it is ecclesiastic: Everything from chants from Uganda with African percussion, to Slavonic liturgy from Bratislava, to Celtic flutes to classical. They showed one video Wednesday: MTV-paced, digitally doctored, rapid-fire cuts of John Paul embracing children, strolling mountains and dunes, greeting the faithful, appearing pensive, all to an orchestral background. The spirit of the video is upbeat and warm, although there's a jarring moment in which a man and woman appear in profile _ naked or near enough to count as such, for the few seconds they show. ``Abba Pater'' _ one of the cuts on the CD as well as the title _ is the Aramaic and Latin for ``Father.'' For a pope who's already embraced the Internet, the pop CD, singles and video are just another way of spreading the word, church officials said at a Vatican news conference with the president of Sony Classical. ``His mission is essentially the transmission of the message,'' said Cardinal Roger Etchegaray, president of the Vatican's committee for 2000 Jubilee celebrations. The production is a mix of God and Mammon, however. Sony will pay royalties to Radio Vatican and the religious media firm Audiovisivi San Paolo. Sony Classical President Peter Gelb and church officials deflected repeated questions at the packed news conference about just how any profits will be split. Sony expects it to sell millions, Gelb said. It will pitch the video to MTV and VH1 in the United States, among many other outlets. The pope has ventured into the commercial world of mass media before with his book ``Crossing the Threshold of Hope.'' He earmarked his royalties from the book to charity. For his pop debut, the pope had no direct involvement _ all the work used existing recordings. ``Even though several trade magazines said we had signed the pope, unfortunately, that is not true,'' Gelb said. My wife and I journeyed to the Copley Theatre and enjoyed nearly two hours of wonderful music by Maire' and her band on St. Patrick's Day. She did a fair amount off her new album. I caught myself closing my eyes at a couple points to feel the depth. The band was quite young (except her 'wee' sister) but very accomplished and the effort was extremely smooth. Maire' was in a great mood as the band was concluding their US tour with the Boston show. Still can't compare to Iona but was nonetheless a wonderful treat. ______________ To unsubscribe send an e-mail command to musictus@musictus.com In the body of the message type ONLY the following: unsubscribe iona or visit http://www.gospel.it/iona/mailingl.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Mar 1999 09:03:34 EST From: DBRDRCK@aol.com Subject: Re: [iona] Happy St. Patrick's Day . _ _ _ |(_)| )(_| mailto:musictus@musictus.com Discussion List http://www.gospel.it/iona/ _______________ Hi everyone. Ughhh!! I have brought up my frustratration in the past of the lack of Iona on radio, So here I was eating lunch at work on St. Pat's day, and I here "It's the all request lunch mix" SO I call up the station, (WCFL, yes a Christian station run from Morris Illinois, s,s west of Chicago.) "Hello WCFL radio" came the reply, I said "Hi I was just listening to some of the fun facts that were stated about the changes that St. Patrick made in Ireland and I thought what a great day to hear Irish Day from Iona." to my astonishment she said "Is she Christian?" ARGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wake up Forefront and smell the Irish coffee!!!!!!!! Sorry about my venting in public e-mail. So the next day I e-mailed them for the same lunch time request show from 12:00 to 1:00 pm, which they advertise to do, and it amazed me that even then they refused to play my request, even though I specified in the e-mail that Iona is a Forefront recording artist. So it is my personal mission to E-mail them every day until they find out who this band is and begin to play them more often. A Man With A Mission.
