When I first heard an Iona CD, I disliked most of the music, ecxept for some of the songs on the CD(Journey into the mourn). I then already had heard some Iona songs, but I had little knowledge of their music. It was just one or two years later, that I appreciated most of the CD and now I love the CD, and i have bought Treasures too. The reason I disliked the CD at first, was that I didn't carefully listen to the music and that I was into fast stuff(like dance, rock, pop) and Iona was to slow then for me and like classical music, too complicated. Ask your son why he doesn't like Iona, he'll tell you the same story and tell me why he doesn't like Iona. If it is like with me, just wait and see, one day(if we haven't been raptured yet) he'll listen to Iona and then he'll like it. If it's otherwise, i don't konw, you'll have to wait too then. That I now love Iona doesn't mean, that I dislike faster music. It has just broadened my horizon in music matters. I just got home from seeing Marie' Brennan in concert (I still don't believe she actually came to Portland Oregon). It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. She basicly did a little bit of everything from her solo stuff to Clanad. Anyway, it was a real treat. Ok, since I am writing anyway I thought I might ask for a little help. I notice many of you are from Ireland. I am doing a paper on the whole thing between Ireland and Brittain and would love to hear how it might have effected some of you. Please feel free to write me about your opinions, feelings, the IRA, ecetra. Any help you guys can provide me with will be invaluble (also please send it only to me rather than the list +) The paper is due at the end of next week, so the sooner the better Thank you all. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Verbosity leads to unclear, inarticulate things." - Dan Quayle, 11/30/88 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Aaron J Edwards -- clone316@juno.com -- ICQ# 15041909 < http://members.tripod.com/~clone316 ><\\\> ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. I think my absolute favourite is 'Lindisfarne' followed closely by 'Beyond these shores'. They are very comforting to me as I have left home in Canada to do a working holiday in England for two years. In fact, Lindisfarne is a major reason why I left in the first place! I consider him the most complete and number 1 source for purchasing anything from Iona in the U.S. Unfortunately, all too often we see these queries on the list and John is not mentioned. This is a pity, as John contributed in no small measure to Iona awareness in the States by offering all their albums for immediate delivery, at a time when you couldn't find them anywhere else, at least without a major search effort. Those of you that participated in Jon Lindeboom's list will remember this period, that come to think of it, wasn't THAT long ago (I suspect that many of you are still out there, lurking on the present list, just like me, longing for the good old unmoderated days). I submit his site, email and mail addresses below. Please check out the site, even those of you who already know it. John's site has evolved and is looking really great. I think you'll find that satisfaction is guaranteed. I just think it makes more sense, financially and time-wise for those in the U.S. to have an option for ordering within their own country, as opposed to ordering from Italy, which undoubtably will come out more expensive and take longer to deliver to the U.S. ______________ To unsubscribe send an e-mail command to musictus@musictus.com In the body of the message type ONLY the following: unsubscribe iona or visit http://www.gospel.it/iona/mailingl.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Mar 1999 12:07:52 From: Donald Jacob Uitvlugt Subject: Re: [iona] Where to get albums... . _ _ _ |(_)| )(_| mailto:musictus@musictus.com Discussion List http://www.gospel.it/iona/ _______________ I was fortunate enough to start listening to Iona when _Book of Kells_ was still in stores. Thought I'd share my fav Iona songs and such since I haven't posted to this list in a while. My favorite Iona album is "Book of Kells" by only a smidge over there other studio albums. I was introduced to Iona back in 1993 by borrowing "Book of Kells" from a friend of mine. I had a hard time giving it back to him :-) . BoK contains my number one Iona song of all time, "Chi-Rho," and my favorite instrumental, "The Arrest - Gethsemane." The Arrest haunts me with the imagery of the torment Christ went through in Gethsemane. Initially I was a bit disappointed with "Beyond These Shores," I felt they were allowing to many pop influences and straying from the rich, layered instrumentation of BoK. However, BTS has grown on me and I've come to realize it is layered in its own way and is just as rich as BoK. "Murlough Bay" is my fav tune off that disc followed closely by "Edge of the World". "Journey into the Morn" is their most mature album of all and gives BoK a run for the money in terms of being my favorite disc. "Everything Changes" and "Divine Presence" rank as my favorite tracks from JitM. I really like the Gaelic too! There's my quick little contribution. Now, to attempt to kick off a little discussion. Celtic Christianity. What has caused the almost faddish nature of Evangelical Christians in the US to idealize the Celtic flavor of Christianity? For some in the US, it has become the icon of perfect Christianity. Is this the case elsewhere in the world? Is it due to the integration of and blurring of the secular and the sacred? (That is one of my own personal reason for idealizing it.) Is it the unwavering and exemplar faith of Columba and Brendan and other saints in the Celtic tradition? I am grateful to Iona for introducing me to Celtic Christianity as it has challenged my own faith and pushed me to grow my faith.
