I don't know. Though I love Celtic music, I am of an ecclectic state of mind. I listen to all kinds of music. I also agree that what you listen to depends on what frame of mind you're in. If I need to relax, then I pop in some Iona, Bach, Strauss, or Opera. But if I'm cleaning or doing some kind of manual labor I like faster more upbeat music. Some of my favs are: Newsboys, Eric Champion, Out of the Grey, Jars of Clay, DC Talk or Amy Grant. I, too, am curious as to what everyone else listens to. Do you all just listen to Iona's type of music or is there any other kind that snags your ear? <>< ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Mar 1998 10:17:36 +0100 From: Jason Savoie Subject: iona Re: The first Iona album . _ _ _ |(_)| )(_| mailto:musictus@musictus.com >>Does anybody out there know how I can get my hands on the first Iona >>albume on cassette? >>Nitram Divad >>divad@oxy.edu I wrote: >Truetunes has it. www.truetunes.com It is 14.99. >Do a search in their catalog. Like you said it all depends on the mood you're in. I love to listen to things that are fairly up beat just before I leave my house in a morning, or before going out for an evening. This can range from "Reels" (by that well know band who's name need not be mentioned!) to Acid Jazz (anyone heard of Phatfish), Rock, Blues, Jazz, Indie, this list goes on! I love anything with a destinctive rhythm, and although I run the risk of getting stoned here, that is somthing that Iona tend to do very well and then sometimes their stuff doesn't seem to be going anywhere (e.g Trilogy). Anyway the bands I like as well: Capitian (Acid Jazz), The Corrs (Irish Roots/Rock), Delirious? (although some of their new stuff is a bit flat!), Beehive (Acid Jazz), Supergrass, Terrorvision, Enigma (yes the secular stuff is good) and the list goes one. Hope that was what you wanted! At any day, you may find me listening to hard rocking artists like Guardian, Grammatrain, or Tourniquet. Another day, I'll be listening to the blues music of Larry Howard, Darrell Mansfield, or Glen Kaiser. Still, another day I may be enjoying the acoustic-based music of Susan Ashton, Jars Of Clay, or Bob Bennett. I am an overall music enthusiast, who enjoys all forms of music. I'm also a musician, and the passion and technical brilliance of Iona blesses me. Their music is incredible, and truly inspiring! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Mar 1998 16:00:12 +0100 From: "Michael Juengling" Subject: Re: iona-digest V98 #6 . _ _ _ |(_)| )(_| mailto:musictus@musictus.com > Dave, > Is this a different CD from "Heaven's Bright Sun"? Lee, I have a copy of the Loose Goose project MK1, and I was slightly disappointed by it, largely because Premier Music gives great reviews of CD's they want to sell, and for this one they used Iona to plug it. It has some good moments, and does have an Iona-type feel to most of the tracks, but comes across as an album of worship songs rather than a worship album, if you know what I mean. And it beats me how Martyn Smith, who produced it, could possibly let the version of 'I Could Sing of Your Love Forever' that is on it be recorded, let alone released! Listen to it before buying it is my advice, as I don't want to put you off it, nor do I want to commit someone I don't know into getting something they may not like! Maybe someone could discuss this line Christian house bands often have superb DJ's and good ideas but they seem to feel the need to sing 'songs' on top of the beats. Often these are cheesy and annoying. Vocals yes, verses and choruses NO. Folks, I'm sorry but I will not post other messages not Iona related. As you know, this list wants to be Iona only focused and not a general discussion forum. I'm sorry to be so untolerant but I want to keep the list this way. For those who wants to chat, I'll open by the end of this week a web based chat. I hope you will enjoy it. Thank you for your understanding. The truth is that the CD was at work (I work in a place where I'm allowed to use the multimedia features on my PC to play CD's while I work, so I wasn't in a hurry to bring it home.) I purchased it at a Christian book store. To my surprise, there was promotional material on the shelf promoting the CD from FOREFRONT music, their label. The interveiw took place near a pool at the hotel they stayed at during the 1996 Cornerstone festival in July, ( a very hot couple of days as I remember) so anyway if anyone is interested you can go to www.truetunes.com/iona.html some of the older members from the list might remember the interview but still fun to reread. Their Email address is KBPRO@juno.com. I believe that the Friends of Iona Newsletter is available in the U.S. from this same source. In past postings, some individuals asked about availability of Iona CDs - - especially the hard-to-find first CD (self-titled "Iona"). A good souce for these is BIG Music (http://www.glasscity.net/users/bigmusic). I've gotten about 6 CDs from them over the past year or so. In addition to Iona, they offer most of the non-Iona offerings by Iona members, and several other Celtic Christian CDs. For example, they are taking advance orders now for TROY DONOCKLEY's first solo CD, which is due out this month, as well as for the 3rd offering by Celtic Expressions of Worship (which features Troy, Terl, and maybe other Iona members).
