Included are pictures of Troy with his pipes and Joanne with her guitar - both shots seen before. The article is favourable, with a nice take on the band's positioning between "Christian" and "non-Christian" music audiences. Some of the information is incomplete or misleading and there is no mention of the coming year of silence, but it's still worth a read. Following on from the general strands that have been floating about on the list recently: ABOUT ME !!! Ok a bit about myself. My name is James Barry, and I live in the County of Wiltshire, UK (although from 0-10 I lived in Peabody,Mass, next door to Ice Hockey player Bobby Orr !!). I'm now 37, and everything I vowed never to be when I was 16. ie Fat(ish), Balding, middle aged and driving (until recently) a Volvo. At 16/17 I was a real drop out being involved in the Glastonbury Festival from 1977-1984. Experimented with most common drugs during those days with bands like Hawkwind at various festivals. In those days nothing would have got me inside a church (even though I had been a local choir boy up to about 14). I now have two lovely children (one nearly 4 the other nearly 7) whose love and vitality keep me going from one day to the next.I guess that I started going back to church in order to give them a good moral background, and also to give them the opportunity to make their own judgements on morality when they are old enough. I now run our churches web presence (http://members.aol.com/taberurc/index.htm). Although a Christian, I have a deep feeling for anything Spiritual, and I guess it was that "Spiritual Fire" that first drew me to Iona. My Christianity is very Celtic in ethos and I can see how Celtic Christianity and its in built and very deep spirituality can guide me in this modern age. The music of Iona in particular has inspired and strengthened my faith over the years. the concept of God's Encircling presence in all we see around us is one I can very much relate with. I have a love for Cornwall, and it is here that I find true Spirtitual fulfillment. Particularly down at the far and remotest end, and I often visit a quiet, ruined Celtic Chapel in Madron. It is a place of quiet contemplation and refreshment. Having said all of this, I use my faith as guiding principles, it does not rule my entire life, and I do have interests and a life away from the Church. Unfortunately, I do not listen to much "christian" music other than Iona. In the past I have found it to be too "twee" and over sentimentalised. As I have said, it is the Spirit that Iona capture not just a few words about God. Iona's music is much deeper and therefore longer lasting (just like the Celtic Church) than most. I am sure that this may have changed by now, but I still can't give you a top list of Christian Music. There is only one and that is Iona. However my top 10 Desert Island Discs will give some idea of the spread of musical taste that I have !!! 1) Iona - Journey into the Morn (a straight fight between this and BTS, it would have been HBS it it had had Edge of the World and Lindisfarne on it !!!) 2) U2 - The Joshua Tree 3) Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway 4) Marillion - Made Again 5) Kitaro - Silk Road iv 6) John Martyn - One World 7) Hawkwind - Space Ritual 8) Steelye Span - Time (has Tim Harries in band, and also play great version of the Water is wide (same tune as Iona's When I survey) 9) Peter Gabriel - Passion (or possibly iv (security)) 10) Yes - Going for the One Sorry ! for the self indulgence, and I hope you did'nt find it all too boring, but at least it will give you a background into who I am when you see any of my postings. I don't know if this is the same >Don Potter (plays guitar). I can't help you on the Morning Star internet >search. Sorry. > > Yeah, it's the same guy. Don got fed up with all the materialism in the Nashville scene, and even though he was a successful producer of bands like the Judds, he gave it up and moved to Moravian Falls, NC where he leads worship at Rick Joiner's MorningStar ministries and is currently building a state of the art recording studio and setting up a center to do 24 hr worship before the Lord (Moravian falls is where Count Zinzendorf set up shop and they prayed 24 hrs a day for over an hundred years). Morningstar bought Zinzendorf's property and is starting it up again, only this time with worship. Pretty exciting stuff. The deed to the property from two hundred years ago says Jesus Christ owns it, a good friend of mine who worked on the remodel and lived there (and is friends with Don) says that it is not uncommon for people to encounter visions and angelic visitations while praying there. Anyway, Don's worship albums are excellent, and are available from www.eaglestar.org/. There are four albums available from the recent Heart of David worship conference, Warfare and Vision (with DP), Worship (with Leonard Jones) and Glory (with LJ and Kevin Prosch). The Glory CD captures the last night of the conference when after 4 hours of worship The presence of the Lord appeared with a visible cloud and heat and consumed the sacrafice. A few thousand people witnessed it. The interesting thing was that the visitation occured after a prophetic version (from God's perspective to man) of the Beatle's classic I Wanna Hold Your Hand. Pretty wild stuff. It's not your average anemic canned worship stuff. These boys get after it, and there are many 10 and 15 minute long celtic and bluegrass and prog rock style instrumental jams with such musicians as guitar and fiddle legend Ricky Skaggs. Most Iona fans would certainly dig it.
