Isn't that a wonderful bass? I'm not really a bass player. I play guitar and dabble in everything else. Anyway the Ibanez Musician just rocks. The neck , tone and everything about it just wonderful. Does your have 6 or 4 knobs? My friend/bandmate Trevor has an arched-top Musician w/ active pickups, 4 knobs and gold hardware. He is looking for another, (fretless or that could be converted to) but we can't find one anywhere. Does anyone have one for sale? I play a (brand-spankin' new) Takamine EG-334C and a Takamine F-385 12 string (w/ Martinish head stock) and a new G & L ASAT (Telcaster). I also traded my cousin for his Slingerlang 1950's "Radio King" drums. I have heard that they are worth about $1100. As they are in very good shape, but need new heads. Maybe the lack of activity here is due to us being so surprised by the planned sabbatical. It's difficult to know what to say at the moment and to try to anticipate how things will evolve for them as a band and individually. Troy's solo album is still a way off and we don't really know what the others will be doing. Maybe Terl will be performing. I'm sure as soon as anyone knows anything this list will be the first to know. Hope so anyway. This in the history page speaking of the 1940's. "With the shift to Bop, drummers' cymbal demands changed, too. The time-keeping emphasis moved from the hi-hat to the top cymbals, for which the then-popular 12" to 14" thin top cymbals proved to be too small. Avedis, now assisted by his son Armand, again went all out to respond to their needs." Mine is the 14" thin. That's an excellent idea, Roger! I'm any clinics he did would be first rate, I'd love to know how he approaches drumming (other than the one paraphrase I've heard where he mentions that they'll record anything that makes noise when you hit it!) I guess I've never made a formal introduction myself. My name is David Taylor, and I reside in Portland, Oregon. I am married, have a two year old son, and currently work as a Project Manager, CAD Manager and Network Administrator at an Environmental Design company. I am a former Youth Pastor and Christian Rock Radio Personality (where I played Iona every day I was on the air for three years) and, since I moved to Oregon from Montana two years ago, am currently involved in no ministry whatsoever (although I'm getting involved some church planting in the near future). I spend my free time fly fishing, mountain biking and backpacking. I started listening to progressive rock when I was around 7, about the same time I started using drugs. I was into Camel, Genesis, Yes, Gentle Giant, Kansas and other more obscure groups like Ethos, Happy the Man and Trace. I quit drugs in 1983 when I found Jesus, but have continued to love creative, pretentious and generally unpopular music ever since. Iona filled a void in my music library, as they incorperate all the things I love in music into a beautiful inspiring and anointed whole. So there you have it. Now you can no longer wonder who the heck that DT guy is who only posts once a month. I loaned a tape of some Iona music to a fellow church member, who happens to play guitar and sing. When he saw me later, he said that when he listened to Iona, he felt like rolling a joint. What?! He was joking, but I have heard this response before about the music to which I listen. I use to do a live-talk radio program with my former pastor. Before the program, I would play a song of my choosing over the air. It was often music by Phil Keaggy/ Glass Harp, Kerry Livgren, or Iona (and a few others). My pastor would say: "It's more of that pot-smokin Christian music!" or "time to get out the bong!" I knew he was joking, so I would remind him of the days of his youth when he use to listen to Frank Zappa and the Mothers or Jethro Tull or David Bowie. When I was a teenager, I use to listen to a lot of YES, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Kansas, Nektar, Pink Floyd, etc. I had a girlfriend who didn't like my music; she called it "Orchestra music." Others said it was music to smoke pot by--but for me, it was the music I enjoyed--WITHOUT the aid of pot. The same goes for the music of IONA. My wife likes Iona too--and she doesn't do drugs. :) Soberly yours, Jason ______________ To unsubscribe send an e-mail command to musictus@musictus.com In the body of the message type ONLY the following: unsubscribe iona or visit http://www.gospel.it/iona/mailingl.html ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 Nov 1997 00:53:39 +0200 From: Hubert Jakobs Subject: iona Former prog fans . _ _ _ |(_)| )(_| mailto:musictus@musictus.com Discussion List http://www.gospel.it/iona/ _______________ Hi! It seems that there are lots of former prog fans on this list. Me, too. I started to listen to music in 68 and it soon filled my days and nights. Although I listened to all kinds of stuff, like pop and rock (Cream, Deep Purple, Sabbath, Zeppelin etc.), I became a huge prog fan in the 70s. My favourites were King Crimson, Yes, Jethro Tull, early Genesis, Banco (from Italy), Spring, Comus, Gnidrolog, ELP, Renaissance etc. etc. And it isn't any wonder that I now, being a Christian for 16 years, regard Iona as one of the best Christian artists there is. But I get a musical kick out of lots of other artists, like Adam Again, Over The Rhine, The 77s, Martha's Wake, Rick Wakeman, Kerry Livgren/AD, Sixpence, Saviour Machine, Fourth Estate etc. BTW, where are the results of the Iona Top 5 we gave our votes to? Who was doing that? Don't remember myself.
