I honestly knew what I meant, but sadly my brain and my memory took different routes to the facts on the last post. Still at least Terl's sax playing on Saturday was fine, or was that Dave's singing. A small humid place the audience were more than warm. The audience also seemed to be into it from step one, partially thanks to the funky support group 'Beehive'. What we got was a brilliant gig, with the band really enjoying the whole thing. The set had changed again since the Acton gig. They pulled a few older songs out of the hat for us including 'Treasure', 'Edge Of The World' and 'Revelation', all of which were brilliant. The new instrumental with Troy on low whistle (I could of sworn he played this on Uilean Pipes last time) and Dave (got it right this time) on keyboards is called 'Angel of God' according to the set list. The whole atmosphere helped the songs along. In my last post I said I wasn't so keen on 'Lindisfarne' or 'Everything Changes', well I still thought 'Lindisfarne' was the most easy going of the songs tonight, but 'Everything Changes' came across very well, with Joanne showing an intensity that I haven't seen on this song before, it was by far the best performance of it I have seen. A few songs were dropped including 'No Heart Beats' (although they did play this in the sound check) and 'When I Survey'. A sign of how good the gig was came from the solos. Troy claimed this was the maddest (as in energetic) crowd they had played too and at one point everyone thought Dave was going to carry on the final guitar solo on 'Inside My Heart' all night, he was obviously enjoying himself immensely. The other sign was that the merchandise stand was swamped under with people wanting to buy albums afterwards The encore was 'Revelation' (another best performance award for this one) and 'Reels' which didn't get quite as fast as I have seen it, probably because everyone was beginning to feel the humidity by this point. Overall this must go in the top four Iona gigs I have seen (out of the 19 seen so far). I also thought Beehive had potential, but they were a strange mixture of exceptional talent (in particular bass & drums) and mediocrity, combined with one of the most infuriating singers I have ever seen on stage (I think she had just walked straight out of a bad American sit-com - no insult meant to Americans!). Of course IONA outshone them both musically and in their attitude. Paul Gath P.S. Ok, name is Johannes Koch - as you can read in the signature below - and I am 25 years old. I am a student of aerospace engineering and now live in Berlin, which is the capitol of Germany. I have no cats or dogs at home, but a cello, a guitar, and three tin whistles which I play on several occasions. I listen to Iona music since 1990 when a friend of mine, who had a christian CD shop in my home town, showed me the first Iona CD. I had been to scotland with my school in that year and was quite impressed by the kind of music that entered my ear when listening to the CD. If someone likes to know more, feel free to ask me :-) Greetings and GBY - --- Johannes Koch http://www.physik.tu-berlin.de/~koch/ ILR (Institute of Aerospace Engineering) TU Berlin, GERMANY IRC-Nick: Waldbaer on #ixthys * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * In te, Domine, speravi; non confundar in aeternum. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Oct 1997 18:32:16 -0400 From: B1BLancer Subject: iona The absolute final note on Iona and air conditoioning I have an idea.
