It is a shame that they did not include some of the other material. In particular I would have liked to have seen Lindisfarne on HBS, but having not seen Iona live before, perhaps Lindisfarne does not come across so well live ? I would also dearly love to hear : Wisdom, Encircling (havethey ever done this song live ?),Burning like Fire, Edge of the world (one of my faves) and Beachy Head (I did'nt know that they had done this song live either). I'm hoping to put right the fact that I have'nt seen them live yet next thursday (2nd Oct) when they play the Fleece & Firkin in Bristol. Are you going to this Martin ? Hi all! Well, I've been subbed to the digest for several weeks now, and nothing's happened. Is anyone there? Any news to impart? Lindisfarne sounded great on the brief US tour this summer! (one of the highlights for me). They also performed Edge of the World on the tour. BTW I just received the "Family Christian Store" (US bookstore chain) fall catalogue. Their CD section features Heaven's Bright Sun. The brief write-up describes Iona as "the thinking person's band, one of Britain's most unique and talented groups". The local store here had about a dozen copies of the CD yesterday (US $22.98). Makes sense! :) I've enjoyed reading the few posts over the last few days, especially since they give me a better idea of what my British brothers and sisters think about Iona and related topics. I think many of us here in the States who love the music of Iona also liked RIch Mullins a lot and are still in shock over his death. Perhaps this explains the lack of activity on this listserver? Hey, has anyone visited the two main Iona websites lately? I hadn't been in awhile and they're looking good guys! You know (Jason and is it Aaron?) that review I sent about Cornerstone can be used on your site. Feel free! Wish I had some pictures to go with it but my camera didn't do very well that night. (Didn't appreciate the lighting -- it's a cheap old thing!) Jason Savoie, Mat, Melanie . . . . others? Let's get some thoughts to the list from this side of the Atlantic about one of our favorite bands! :) Jill in Dallas PS Rich was onstage the same night as Iona at Cornerstone this past July. He made a guest appearance with Third Day! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Sep 1997 17:12:21 -0400 (EDT) From: TomBowcock@aol.com Subject: Re: iona Iona - HBS favorite >>Lindisfarne sounded great on the brief US tour this summer! I know that they play it regularly. I just wonder why it was left off. In all honesty I would have prefered Lindisfarne to Heavens Bright Sun. Although of course in reality what I would have liked was a 3 CD boxed set !!!!!! It would be nice if they were to make a live version of Lindisfarne Available through some medium. Anyway the days are ticking over until Oct 2nd when I shall see them for myself. I feel like a teenager all over again at the prospect. Its the first time that I've been this excited about seeing a band for about 20 years. I must admit that I'm not that brilliant at write ups, but will try and do a review of the concert for our american bretheren, as so many of them did the same on the last listserv for us when Iona were there in the Summer. I have just recently discovered Iona and even more recently discovered this mailing list! I'm sure all of the superlatives have long since been exhausted in this mailing list to describe Iona, so I won't even try. Suffice to say I like it! This is probably a question that has been asked alot already, so forgive me for asking it again. Anybody know when Iona will be in the US again? I can't seem to find any concert info that has any US dates. How difficult is it to contact the powers that be and discuss a possible booking? Iona currently have a very short tour starting here in the UK next week. I believe that they are then due to go into the studios to start laying down ideas for the next album. I therefore expect that they will not tour the US again until nest year - But I might be wrong. Hello Iona fans, Jill in Dallas was right about the USA side of this list being quiet. We're in shock over Rich Mullin's death... (Rich Mullins played with "Third Day" and was onstage just before Iona came out last July at Cornerstone.) I know that somebody here in the States commented on the new ad from "Family Christian Stores" with the Iona HBS CD in it. It's nice to see it advertised as "a thinking man's CD". Our local stores have them with the ability to preview the CD with headphones. If there is anybody here in the states that want Iona black t-shirts, check out the website www.mindspring.com/~iona and look under "merchandise". It's nice to hear from the new subscribers on this list as well as the "veterans" to this list... Well, that's not so true for me. Actually, Iona is the only "Christian" band I like. And that has more to do with their Celtic theology than anything else. I try to practice a Celtic form of Christianity, ala Philip Newell, David Adam, Esther De Waal, etc. I was amazed to see there was a band with that same focus--Johannine Christianity, knowledge of encircling prayers, etc. I've been told I'd like a Chicago band called "the Crossing" which is also Celtic Christian. But I can't find any of their CDs around here. >(Rich Mullins played with "Third Day" and was onstage just before Iona came >out last July at Cornerstone.) > I only just found out about Rich Mullins' death. Even then I had to ask who he was. Then I remembered attending a concert of his in Chicago a few years ago with some friends. It is really sad. My sympathies to all of you who were great fans of his. >I know that somebody here in the States commented on the new ad from "Family >Christian Stores" with the Iona HBS CD in it. It's nice to see it advertised >as "a thinking man's CD". Our local stores have them with the ability to >preview the CD with headphones. > Interestingly, our local Barnes and Noble carries Iona CDs in their "new age" section. Odd, no? BTW, I'm a newbie here, so allow me to introduce myself. I live in central Illinois, and work for a Victim Offender Reconciliation Program as an adminsitrator and mediator. I'm a member fo the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and am ordained, occasionally doing interim ministries in this area. As I said, I'm deeply interested in Celtic Christianity, and am affiliated with the Northumbria Community, as much as an American can be affiliated at this stage. I'm single, but share my home with two cats and a dog. Did you ever see his video where he went to Ireland? Ever heard the song "The Colour Green?" (and no, it's not the one that Kermit, the Frog sings!) Some of us at one time last year were talking about the perfect concert schedule and it seems like we were leaning toward either Phil Keaggy or Rich Mullins opening for Iona. That may seem too mainstream to some of you, but I think they would've gone well together. (Besides hammer dulcimers are not exactly main stream!) Anyway, life goes on!
