I'm back from my trip to Singapore and I found following messages waiting for an answer: >From Hans Nijntjes: >A little quick search on all email-addresses containing "Iona" >returned a result of 44 items. But no "musictus@musictus.com" (!!???!!) Don't understand this assertion. Where is musictus@musictus.com supposed to be registered?? BTW the address is 21 days old, and search engines takes long time to update their index files. >Does anyone heard about ICQ ? >Is that something interesting for us ? Dear Lee, Your two messages bounced because Majordomo detected the words "subscribe musictus@musictus.com" in the same line of your messages. Since he's handling messages automatically, and I coundn't check my email for last 8 days they remained on my mailbox waiting for moderator approval. Sorry for inconvenience. Yours were the only two bounced messages. There is no need to resubscribe as musictus@musictus.com is just an alias of musictus@musictus.com From: "Knauer, Rainer" >thanks for the invitation to join the new Iona list which I tried to do >on September 3rd but it didn't work. I didn't receive any digest (I'm on >the digest list) so I had to get them manually via the "get >iona-digest..." command. Just the other day, I was sharing "Screen Door" with my nephew, describing what jawboning, with the snaps, claps and slaps, was. Just the other day, Rich was here. Now he's with Christ. For those who know and love Rich's music, I suggest "Elijah" from the "Songs" album. These two concerts were my first experience of 'Iona' type music and all I can say is that I can't wait to see Iona !!(I use the term iona type music because I find the 'Folk' music tag a little 'fuddy duddy' !!!) I know people are always asking for similar music to Iona, Capercaillie are similar but I would say they are nearer to Clannad and maybe Enya ? Anyway they were excellent live and their new CD is well worth a listen, some of the tracks are referred to as 'Gaelic Mouth Music' which is a cross between scat & rap in Gaelic - it works very well indeed. Does anyone know if Iona plan to tour the UK soon (apart from the latest tour that is), they come nowhere near the north east of England and I am really disappointed. Enough of my rambling ! I believe my fave on the album is 'Flight of the Wild Goose.' I probably listen to this the most--I like the sound of the guitar. I like instrumentals anyway--just as I am listening to Keaggy's (instrumental) 'Beyond Nature' on my computer while I am typing this. (I loaned HBS to a friend for a while--a YES fan since the early 70's--and he said he really liked FOTWG.) Anyone else want to name his/her fave from HBS? If that is possible? :) *Our God is an Awesome God* Jason Savoie from Indiana www.noblecan.org/~jsonb ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 08:16:50 +0100 (GMT Daylight Time) From: gill king Subject: Re: iona Goodbye Rich Aaron - What a shock to come into on a Monday morning. I knew nothing of this. Rich had been billed for the Greenbelt Festival this year, but I gather wasn't there and I had been wondering if there was anything wrong, but to hear this. Just awful. Deep condolences to all. I was blessed to be able to meet him this summer, shake his hand and speak to him briefly. As sad as I am at his death the thought of him singing "our God is an awesome God" in the presence of the Father is a condolence for me. The suddenness of his death makes us realize to live each day for Him like it is our last. In Christ. This version, in my opinion, is better than the studio version (Iona's self titled first release). Other favorites: Bi-Se I Mo Shuil -Part 2 and Iona (wounderful intro, with Joanne explaining how the song was conceived). I wished the album had more songs from Beyond these Shores, like "Burning like Fire"", "Bird of Heaven" and "Edge of the World". Also missing: "Encircling" and "Wisdom" from Journey into the Morn. It would be impossible to include them all because nearly everyone has been influenced by him in one way or another. I think Iona should cover "Step by step". And some or all of the profits should go to the Native American Outreach program at Compassion. Does anyone have any ideas? I wonder if any record company would be interested. It might need to be on Myrrh seeing that had just sighed a six record contract with them. Other bands that I think would be cool are: Third Day (He played on the debut), Jars of Clay, Sixpence, This Train, Carolyn Arends, etc, etc... <>< aaron http://www.netins.net/showcase/vwbug/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 17:56:33 +0200 From: Vaughan Granier Subject: iona On a sad Note I heard from Daniel Blackwood that Rich Mullins was killed on Friday evening, in a car crash whilst driving to a concert he was scheduled to perform in. He apparently was thrown clear of the car, and died instantly. The other occupant of the car is critical, but stable. This is very sad news for all, but for Christian musicians especially - he had awesome songwriting talent, and was a real inspiration to me and to others who knew his music. Thank you for sharing it. A different style to Iona but some good music and real active ministry - he was thinking of giving up recording to persue his work with a minority group (some indians somewhere? can't remember if it was North or South USA but could no doubt look it up in back issues of that UK magazine). This year's festival is in Sheffield and, according to a mailing I received today, has NOT been cancelled. Steve Curtis Chapman was headlining it & no longer can. Chris Eaton has been added to the bill of: World Wide Message Tribe (previewing new album - definately NOT like Iona!), Delirios?, Newsboys and Sarah Jahn. By the way, dBA were 65dBA which came from an early gig where an environmental person said that their sound level must not exceed 65dBA at a location on a roundabout near the venue. As far as I know they played the same set list each night, spending the soundchecks recording a few bits to 'patch up' (at least they were doing this at Shepton Mallet). The set list was First Half *Turning Tide/ *Treasure/ *Flight of the Wild Goose/ Today/ *Irish Day/ Luke/ *Inside My Heart/ *Trilogy/ *I Will Give My Love An Apple Second Half *The Island/ Everything Changes/ Lindisfarne/ *Iona/ *Columcille/ Heaven's Bright Sun/ *Chi-Rho/ *Bi-Se I Mo Shul Part 2/ *Kell's Theme Encores No Heart Beats/ *Reels(The Mountain Road/The Ivy Leaf/ Rip The Callico)/ *When I Survey the * are actually marked on the set list as 'probables for the album' so they already had some idea before they even recorded the gigs as to what they were going to use. Because they got a double album release we ended up with the entire first half, and the second half mainly, losing all the non * marked songswith the exception of Heaven's Bright Sun. Personnel favorites on the album include Treasure, Inside My Heart, I Will Give My Love an Apple, Heaven's Bright Sun, The last 4 songs. The version of Flight of the Wild Goose is not bad, and is better than the previous arrangement which saw Troy and Mike playing all the melodies and Mike hardly anything, which I felt took some of the power out of the song. Other songs from the past that I would have loved live versions of are: No Heart Beats, Here I Stand, Beijing, The River Flows, Matthew - The Man, Edge Of The World, Bird Of Heaven, Murlough Bay, Burning Like Fire, Healing, Beyond These Shores annd finally Beachy Head (a song that always left me shell shocked live).
