Hi friends, I definitely can say the listserv is ok. The apparent illness was only due to silence from its subscribers? I think so. There are currently more than 100 subscribers (standard and digest together). I post on the web all past digests at http://www.gospel.it/iona/digests/97/ cleaned of all headers and footers for your reference. Greetings Ionaphiles, I spoke to Troy's partner Terri the other day and the album is coming along 'splendidly'. Troy is burning the midnight oil writing it and doing the studio work, she said it sounds 'classical' from the dem she'd heard, with oboe, string quartet etc. Their daughter Mia should be at my son's birthday party at the weekend, so I should know more then. They were at Blackpool switching on the illuminations with Barbara Dickson at the weekend i think - for those of you who appreciate this English tradition - a high honour! Iona is the only Christian music I listen to, except maybe some classical. Several months ago when I was still receiving the Friends of Iona news by post, there was an article about Iona doing some kind of recording or working towards a recording of music from Taize. Does anyone know anything about this? I am curious and anxious to hear (and experience!!) such an album. Any info anyone may have would be most appreciated. Some are in English, some in Latin, some in other languages. Just simple verses, often taken straight from the Bible, like 'Jesus remember me when you come into your Kingdom' or various Kyries. They are often sung unaccompanied but I must admit I think Mike Haughton's various saxophones give them an extra dimension. Hi Mat, A number of our seaside holiday resorts have a tradition that when the nights are drawing in, they hang coloured lights all over the buildings and fixtures and on the first night they are officially switched on by a "star". In Blackpool's case, its one of our big holiday places, and they were giving a number of celebrities a half hour slot ( so Terri told me) and Barbara was one, with Troy's assistance! Any way they have one of those very big rides that he's so fond of and they could stay with his parents, since they live that way. Troy is also using a major pipe organ, Rochdale Town Hall at last telling, though he had some difficulty finding a suitable one that people would let him loose on. regards mick = ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Sep 1997 01:49:35 -0400 (EDT) From: Jilliemae@aol.com Subject: iona (and 65dba) Hi all! I take it they are from the UK. Getting the definition of a Taize service ASAP from my pastor's wife. I'll get back with you all later. DBA (aka 65dba) are indeed based in the UK (some where in Wiltshire I believe). They are a pop/dance/techno band with a style hugely removed from Iona's profound, contemplative classic rock. DBA's ministry is very much the teenage outreach circuit. I cannot imagine Iona recording with them, but it is quite possible that they are both on the bill for some major Christian concert of the sort that includes half-a-dozen or so bands of differing styles. Events like this take place from time to time in the UK, but I've not heard of anything coming up. Perhaps our listees who work for / with Cross Rhythms are in the know?
